Bike Sharing in ATX. What do you think #SNAPPatx

What if there was a way to get around town, save on gas, and promote better health and a cleaner environment? We're talking about biking and it could be more accessible than ever.

The city of Austin has had car share programs for a while now. However, this time the city is looking at way to get people out their cars and on the bike without you having to buy a bike.

Time to test weekend rail service in Austin

With ridership numbers trending upward for Capital Metro's rail service, it's time for the transit agency to roll out a pilot program to test demand for regular weekend service. And because MetroRail is proving its worth in providing service for special events, Capital Metro also should expand its service.

Reducing the hassle and expense of driving and parking downtown might boost weekend business for central city restaurants and clubs, including those in the East Austin corridor that are easily accessible from several MetroRail stops.

The numbers are telling the story.

"They'll provide more frequency, a better ride and lower commute times," Cap Metro Board Vice Chairman John Langmore said. "Think of them as a rail line with rubber tires."

BikeShare in Austin

City's idea becoming more well-received

AUSTIN (KXAN) - After initial hesitation by the bicycling community, the idea of a city-operated Bicycle Share program is slowly gaining support.
"I think it's long overdue. They've been doing it in other cities all over the world," said Mark Mitchell, owner of Barton Springs Bike Rentals.
